BIG PAINTING JOB

General Motors’ Building As a result of the action of General Motors, New Zealand, Ltd., in letting a contract for the repainting of the whole of the outside of their factory at Petone, a number of unemployed painters in the Hutt Valley will obtain work for six or eight weeks. The surface for painting is comparatively small, but when it is considered that the factory contains some 10,000 panes of glass, the amount of labour necessary to paint the sashes will be realised. The contract will run into some hundreds of pounds, the greatest part of which will be paid for labour. A stipulation of the contract is that as far as possible Petone and Lower Hutt unemployed painters will be employed. Haying the work done now means that the men will have some extra money for Christmas. Work is expected to begin on the second or third week in November.
