HALLOWE’EN FAIR

Bonny Babies on Show

Quite a crowd of bonny entrants arrived yesterday at tbo Hallowe’en Fair in the Y.W.C.A. Hall, Boulcott Street, for the baby show and there was not a tear or a cry among the lot. Each group assembled on the stage for judging, an ordeal perhaps for the young motliers, but not for the babes who thoroughly enjoyed the limelight. One father present was in charge of a lively youngster with roguish eyes and alluring dimples, who thoroughly captivated all who passed by. Every one of the babes was a perfect specimen of good health and sensible unbringing, and their pretty’woollies in pinks and blues added to their attractiveness. Airs. McVicar, the judge, was assisted by Sister Castlehow from the Karitane Hospital and Aliss Aforgan from the Alexandra Home. The prize-win-ners were:— Under C> months: —Lois Chatfield. Under 12 months: —Robert Brooks. Over 1 year:—Pam Wingate and Doreen Pearce. Twins: —Jeanette Tyrell and her brother. The prizes ivere photographs of each winner to be taken by well-known Wellington photographers. During the afternoon Aliss Olga Burton played two violin solos. In the evening the pupils of Miss K. O’Brien gave several dance numbers which were much enjoyed. Aliss Prue Ivewis and Mr. R. Phillips gave a novelty number with ukulele and voices, which was highly appreciated. Airs. Kenny’s String Band also- gave some successful numbers. The Fair will be continued to-day, and in the evening Air. and Mrs. Albert Russell ■will provide the programme.
