GIRLS ON HOLIDAY
Wanganui to Wellington TRAMP OF 133 MILES Two girls, Misses Fear and Doust, are spending their annual holidays tramping from Wanganui to Wellington. They left last Saturday at midday and expect to reach their destination this evening. So far the young trampers have completed the stages of their 133-mile journey in remarkably good time. From the outset they made the pace a smart one, and in the first afternoon covered 13 miles. They spent the night at Turakina. On Sunday the girls tramped from Turakina to Sanson, a distance of 18 miles, and on Monday they bettered this by two miles, reaching Foxton. Their goal on Tuesday was Manakau, again 20 miles away, and by nightfall the distance had been covered. Manakau to Paraparaumu, a tramp of 19 miles, was Wednesday’s achievement, and yesterday they were on the road between Paraparaumu and Plimmerton, where they intended to spend the night after putting 20 miles behind them between dawn and dusk. To-day’s lap will be the longest, 23 miles having to be covered before the two girls reach the city. According to news received in Wanganui, Misses Doust and Fear have enjoyed every minute of their journey. In Wellington they are to be the guests of Mr. K. Fear, of Rongotai.
