WAR RELIEF CLAIMS

Recent Demands on Fund MONTH’S WORK REVIEWED Applications for assistance received by the Wellington War Relief Association during the past month included 112 claimants who have not previously approached the fund. The monthly meeting of the association, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs. L. O. H. Tripp (chairman), C. M. Luke, A. Macintosh, S. J. Harrison, A. Cowles, C. Watson, and G. Mitchell. The Emergency Committee reported that it had met on 22 occasions since September 22, and during that period had dealt with 117 claims, all of which were referred to the Applications Committee. That committee met on five occasions, disposing of 279 applications, of which 112 were claims from those who had not previously approached the fund. There were still 131 applications in hand, so that the total claims received amounted to 410. “The number of persons who called at the association’s oflice during the period under review previously mentioned was 407,” said the report, which added: “There has been no alteration in the general activities of the committee. Assistance differing widely in description has been given partially to disabled soldiers, to others who were discharged fit and subsequently developed a war disability, to the widowed mothers and widows of soldiers who fell in action ,and in other that cannot be referred to within the limits of this report." The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported that the expenditure for the month was £476/14/11, and the income £149/13/-, leaving £327/1/10 to be debited to capital. The total funds available were as follow: —Investments, £19,350 ; current account, £414/0/7; cash in hand, £3O. The report was adopted.
