U.S. TENNIS TEAM
No Play at Auckland INVITATION NOT ACCEPTED According to a wireless message received by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association from Wilmer Allison, captain of the American touring team ■which will arrive at Auckland by the Niagara on Monday on its way to Australia, no games will be played by the team in New Zealand until the official tour begins next February. The Auckland association has been negotiating during the past ’week for authority to stage exhibition matches between members of the team during its short stay iu that city. Two delegates from the association, Mr. R. B. Hardy and Mr. E. W. Griffiths, were present at a special meeting of the management .committee of the New Zealand association held on Wednesday evening. It is understood that the New Zealand governing body would have raised no objection provided that the consent of the Australian Association and of the players themselves was obtained. Now, however, Allison has advised that the invitation to'play iu exhibition matches at Auckland on Monday next has had very regretfully to be declined.
