Tobacconist’s Bankruptcy
With a deficit of £B4l, Abraliani .Maillnson, tobacconist, met his creditors at the office of the Official Assignee yesterday. Liabilities to unsecured creditors were shown at £1346. Bankrupt in his statement said that he purchased two shops in 1929, one on Lambton Quay and the other in Cuba Street. Rival establishments took array some of the trade, and the fact that grocers sold tobacco at cut-rate; prices did not' help matters. The slump had also. materially affected the business, and in spite of every possible economy the shops could not be made to pay. ;
■ Authority' was given the bankrupt to negotiate a sale of the Cuba Street shop, the Lambton' Quay shop having already been disposed of.
