RONA TYPE YACHT
Fault in Measurement CANTERBURY OPINION By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Oct. 20. The discovery that the Sanders Cup boats built to the standard Rona type plans decided on in 1923 were bunt with an error in measurement in a certain sectidn of one of the moulds was discussed at to-night’s meeting of the Canterbury Yachting Association. It was reported that Auckland yachtsmen were building boats which do not conform to the Rona type, of which there are five in Canterbury alone. Members were definitely in favour of coming to compromise by allowing both types of boat to compete. It was mentioned that the error iu measurement was not big enough to affect sailing power. It was decided to recommend that the 1933 contest be begun on February 1. FUTURE SANDERS YACHTS Otago Recommendations By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Oct. 27. A sub-committee appointed by the Otago Yacht Association to consider the question of future Sanders Cup boats has recommended that the ’boat most suitable (overall), ISft.; extreme beam, 3ft. 9iu.; depth, Ift. Sin.; sail area, 140 square feet. The boat would be rigged, and all sails would Be made in New Zealand. The recommendation was adopted. In reporting to the Yacht Association the sub-committee expressed the opinion that the cost of the present type of Rona boat was excessive, and that the need exists for a type of boat simpler in design and more reasonable in cost. Encouragement should be offered, the committee stated, to youths who bad passed through the Cornwell Cup class to take up the sport in the Sanders Cup contests, and this could best be done by making the acquisition of a boat within the means of all. The contest seemed to be developing into a wealthy man’s sport. It is stated that, the V-bot.torn boat recommended could be built for £7O. Moulds Sent South Dominion Special Service. Auckland. Oct, 27. The sled outside moulds for measuring Sanders Cup bouts were sent south to-day. The Auckland Yachting Association, declares that the supposed alteration iu the new plan is only a necessary fairing of the bow lines, and that no alteration has been made in the Rona plan. The association is prepared to send an expert to Wellington to demonstrate this.
