ARMISTICE DAY
Roses for Street Sale Preparations for Rose Day, to be held on November 11, Armistice Day, are well in hand. Colonel H. E. Avery, in reporting to the executive of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening, stated that more than 16,000 roses had been made, and given a fine day a successful effort was anticipated. He thanked the women who had volunteered their services, and also those who had made the roses. The price of the roses was fixed at 1/- each, but it was decided that no reasonable offer should be refused. Last year’s collection amounted to £320. The proceeds are divided among the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the South African Veterans, the Women’s National Reserve, St. John Ambulance Association, and the Red Cross Society. Wellington is the only town in New Zealand in which a Rose Day is held.
