“MYSTERY” TRAMPERS

Eighth Train Excursion Wellington people have not lost their' interest for "mystery” tramps, over 800 ■taking advantage of the cheap trip provided by the Railway Department yesterday. Although there was a slight drizzle at intervals during the day, it did not dampen the spirits of the trampers, and they were able to enjoy to the utmost the splendours of the Upper Hutt Valley. The party detrained at Upper Hutt station, and made its way to the public picnic-grounds at Akatarawa, which was the place selected for lunch. As usual, the Railway Department had free hot water ready for the use of the party. After lunch, those who did not desire to go further stayed at the pic-' nic ground, while the majority continued, with the guides, through the properties of the Upper Hutt Borough and Messrs. Frank and Charles Whiteman, and up a hill track, to the summit of Cannon Point (1600 ft. above sealevel). The track wound through some fine native bush, and the view obtained from the heights was splendid. The total distance covered was approximately ten miles, but with such scenes of beauty and with such splendid comradeship among the trampers. the miles seemed more like chains. - The Railway Department has made arrangements for an equally exciting 1 trip next Sunday.
