HISTORIC VALUE
fiarly New Zealand Sketches
(Rec. September 5, 9.40 p.m.)
Sydney, September 5.
In an article written for the “Sydney Morning Herald,” Eric Ramsden, a New Zealand journalist, records the existence of several sketches by Lieutenant Thomas Woore, an officer of the warship Alligator, which rescued Mrs. Guard and children from the Taranaki coast in 1834. As Lieutenant Woore was an eye-witness of the depicted incidents, Mr. Ramsden regards the sketches, which have been in the possession of the Busby family for half a century, as of historic value to New Zealand.
Other* sketches, none of which have been hitherto described, include scenes at the Bay of Islands, Whangaroa and Kapiti.
