The Government, steamer Matai left the Chatham Islands at 5 a.m. yesterday for Wellington via Pitt Island. She is now expected here about noon to-morrow. CAMBRIDGE COMPLETING. The Federal steamer Cambridge is now to leave Wellington at 7 a.m. to-day for Napier and Auckland to complete her Homeward loading. She is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on September 13 for London, Avonmouth. Liverpool, and Glasgow, via Cape Horn. Montevideo, and Dakar. SWEDISH LAID-UP TONNAGE. One of the few countries in the world where the volume of idle mercantile tonnage is sensibly declining is Sweden. The latest returns show that on July 1 there were only 118 laid-up totalling 228.000 tons dw.. in Swedish ports, compared with 143 of 286,000 tons on Juno 1. The figures, however, still considerably greater than those of a year ago, when they stood at 70 vessels of 177,000 tons dw. (

From Loudon via the Panama' Canal, the New Zealand Shipping Company s steamer Tekoa reached Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon. She will later proceed to Lyttelton to complete discharge and to commence her Homeward loading to the agency of the Federal Company. The Tekoa will subsequently load at New Plymouth, Wanganui. Wellington Napier, Gisborne and Auckland. one is due here on September 16 and is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on September 29 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow. WAINUI AT BLUFF. . The Union Company’s Wainui arrived at Bluff early yesterday morning from Melbourne and was to have left there again last night for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington to complete discharge. The Shaw, Savill Company advises that the Otira was to have left Bluff last night for Napier, where she is due to-morrow night to complete discharge of her Ix>ndon cargo aud to commence her Homeward loading. She will later complete at New Plymouth, Lyttelton, VI ellmgton. and Auckland. The Otira is now due here on September 21, and is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on September ~7 for London, via the Panama Canal. MAUI POMARE IN PORT. The Government motor-ship Maui Pomare is due at Wellington this morning from Apia and Niue Island, via Lyttelton, and will berth at No. 4 Qpeens Wharf to discharge her cargo of fruit. She is to leave here again next Diesdav for Apia and Niue Island to load again for Lyttelton and Wellington. Gardiner, Binnie and Halliburton are the local agents.
