LIVINGSTONE’S OVERCOAT.

The overcoat that was worn by David Livingstone, the missionary-explorer, on his last journey in Africa, has been handed by the authorities of Charterhouse School to the trustees of the Livingstone Memorial at Blantyre, Livingstone's birthplace. The coat is a disreputable object enough, for it has seen hard wear on the back of a native chief since Livingstone gave it up, probably in exchange for food. The chief’s name was Matoba, and it was from him that Bishop—then the Rev.— Chancy Maples, of the Universities Mission. acquired it, tattered, faded, and patched in typical African fashion, in 1877. The bishop presented the coat to Charterhouse in 1891, and it has lain in the school museum until now.
