ATHLETIC CONTROL

Registration Scheme ADOPTED BY COUNCIL N.Z. Pole Vault Record A scheme for the registration of athletes was adopted at last evening's meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. This action by the council was the outcome of its acceptance of a motion moved by Mr. C. B. Allan, notice of which had been previously given. The motion was seconded by Mr. V. Hugo. Under the scheme every athlete who is a member or becomes a member of a club affiliated to the association shall be registered annually with the association. The secretary of each club shall forward a list showing the full names of the club athletes to the secretary of the-centre within which centre’s district the respective club is situated. Such list shall be accompanied by a remittance of the registration fees, which shall not be less than 1/- nor more than 2/6 for each athlete. “Overseas Fund.” One shilling of each registration fee shall- be forwarded to the secretarytreasurer of the association to be appropriated to an “Overseas Representative Fund,” and the balance, if any, shall be retained! by the centre for Its general purposes. On receipt of such list and remittance the association shall issue a certificate of registration with the association. This shall qualify the holder thereof during the period for which it is issued to enter for any event at any meeting held under the association’s rules. No registration certificate shall be transferable. Nothing in these rules is to apply to athletes visiting the Dominion from overseas. In moving his motion Mr. Allan said it would mean that before any runner could compete he would have to pay his fee and have his number registered. Green on a white background was fixed as the colour scheme for numbers for the coming season. Jumping Events Interchange. In accordance with notice of motion given by Mr. G. M. Reid, the council decided to interchange the positions of the broad jump and hop, step and jump on the programme for the national championships. The secretary, Mr. L. A. Tracy, explained that the motion was to meet the wishes of the jumpers, who preferred that the broad jump should be held before the hop, step and jump at the championships. The former event would now be held on the first day of the championship meeting, and the hop, step and jump on the second day. Fractures of the ankle were more likely with the last-named event than with the broad jump. For this reason jumpers were anxious that the broad jump should be completed first. Copies of remits dealt with by harrier delegates during the recent crosscountry championships at Christchurch were tabled. The secretary, who attended the conference, reported that consideration of the proposal to hold an annual marathon race was deferred pending the receipt of the views of the different centres. The performance of J. W, Batstone'S in pole vaulting lift. 4Jln. at the Walkari sports meetings 0n... Easter Monday last was recognised, as a New Zealand record. ■ Affiliation was granted the Hastings Harrier Club, the Christchurch Anglican Harrier Club, and the Christchurch Presbyterian Bible Class Amateur Athletic Club.
