Scripture Examination

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

Of the 808 Sunday school scholars from 66 different schools who were candidates at the Scripture examination held. by the Wellington Sunday School Union in July last, 203 gained 80 per cent, or more of the total marks, which entitled them to a prize. Second-class certificates were won by 430 candidates, and third-class certificates by 135; slightly under 5 per cent of the scholars failed to secure the 40 per cent, necessary to obtain a pass. The examiners were Mrs. R. Wood. MA. Mrs. N. F. Callam, Miss Oldfield, Mr J B. Hopkirk and Mr. H. D. Grocott. A teachers’ examination, for which 17 sat, was held at the same time. Miss Mary McLean, M.A., was the examiner. Teachers’ diplomas were won by six of the candidates, who earned 75 per cent, or more marks. The successful candidates were: Miss Joy Stock (Hataitai Methodist) and Mr William Leslie Edwards (Miramar Baptist), 100 per cent, each; Miss P. M. Wood (Nelson Baptist), and Mr. Arthur J. Coulter (Vivian Street Church ot Christ), 95 each; Mr. Allan E. Edridge (Island Bay Baptists 94; Miss Joan Stewart (Island Bay Baptist), 80. The prizes and teachers’ diplomas will be presented at the annual rally, to lie held in the Town Hall on October 15. Instead of the scholars from the Hutt Valley coming to Wellington to receive their awards it has been arranged to hold a local rally.
