TRADE REVIVAL
The King’s Keen Interest The King sent a message to the Advertising Association’s convention, saying he trusted its efforts to revive trade would be completely successful. Lord Leverhulme, in his presidential address, said the world was undoubtedly awaiting the lead which Britain had invariably given in the past. The convention must consider how to use advertising in this year of opportunity. “YVe cannot secure prosperity by advertising for it, but we must increasingly realise the essential part played by advertising in stimulating production and facilitating distribution,” said Lord Leverhulme. “YVe must avoid as much as possible reducing advertisements, merely because it would seem to be the line of least resistance in a temporary difficulty. “Our first duty is to maintain faith in advertising, and our second duty is to employ it to secure the greatest efficiency.” Mr. F. J. Marquis, a Liverpool business man, declared that no more valuable medium of getting quick advertising results existed than the newspapers.
