SHEEP BLOWN INTO AIR

Terrific Whirlwind in England Sheep, lambs, and birds were swept into the air and dashed against a wall and wire fence by a sudden whirlwind on the’ moors at Stanhope, near Bishop Auckland, Durham. ■ A wooden hut in a stone quarry was also carried some distance before crashing to the ground. Some of the sheep and lambs were stunned, but none was killed. Mr. J. Hobson, manager of Messrs. J. Grayson Lowood and Co.’s quarries, said that it had been a calm and clear day. The noise of the approaching whirlwind was terrific as it swept into the quarry and across the moors.
