NUDIST BATHERS
French Police Raid on Sunny Beach CLOTHES IMPOUNDED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Rec. August 15, 7 p.m.). Paris, August 15. While the German police are inaugurating a war against nudist beauty shows, the Paris authorities are taking more drastic steps. Five lorry-loads of gendarmes raided the Seine beach at Chois le Roi, near Paris, during the sunniest hours of the afternoon when it was crowded with naked and semi-clothed bathers. The police rushed to the water’s edge, seized dozens of bathers, and bundled them dripping wet into the lorries. The sun-bathers were given time to slip on trousers and frocks. Thirty men and women escaped by swimming to boats, but their plight was worse, as all their clothes on the beach were impounded. The bathers will be charged with illicit bathing, the penalty for which is twenty shillings, as a prosecution for indecency would mean six months 'imprisonment.
