INTERMEDIATE CREDIT
Operations of Board SOUTH ISLAND INTERESTS Special consideration to the extension of its business in the South Island, where the progress has not been so great as in the North, .is to be given by the Rural Intermediate Credit Board. At the monthly meeting of the board held in Wellington it was stated that there were many farmers in the south who were not yet fully aware of the advantages of the’system and who would benefit from its adoption. The meeting was attended by Colonel J. J. Esson (chairman), Messrs. J. W. Macdonald (Commissioner of Rural Intermediate Credit), John Brown, T. E. Corkill, Norton Francis, J. N. Massey, G. C. Rodda, and W. Waddel. The board made the following appointments as the result of staff changes in the Public Trust Office: — Mr. A. R. Coad as district intermediate credit supervisor, Wellington, in succession to Mr. G. E. Miller, who has been appointed deputy superintendent of the State Advances Office. Mr. Cuthbert Freyberg as district intermediate ‘credit supervisor, Palmerston North, and chairman of the Mana-watu-Wellington District Board in succession to Mr. K. A. Henderson, who has resigned. Mr. W. M. Egglestone as district intermediate credit supervisor, Haw-era, in succession to Mr. Cuthbert Ffeyberg. In view of the results achieved at the recent conferences of associations held at Hamilton and Palmerston North’ it was decided to hold further conferences in other parts of the Dominion. The board approved of the holding of a conference at Dunedin ;o which representatives of associations operating in the Canterbury, Otago and Southland rural intermediate credit districts will be invited. The commissioner presented to the board a statement of the arrears of interest and instalments owing to the board at June 30 last. The return, in common with the other returns which have been presented to the board, showed that the arrears, particularly those of interest, are small. The board placed on record its special appreciation of the manner in which this portion of the board’s work had been performed by its officers.
