CONCILIATION WORK
Another Commissioner MR. GOHNS APPOINTED In view of the increased work likely to be placed before Conciliation Councils during the next few months, Mr. E. W. F. Gohns, an inspector in the Labour Department, and at present in charge of the Wanganui office, has been appointed a Conciliation Commissioner. He will probably work in Wellington and adjacent districts. Mr. Gohns came to New Zealand in 1875, and in 1900 he was elected president of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council. He was secretary of twelve unions from 1897 to 1907, and he acted as advocate for several of the organisations'. He was subsequently appointed inspector of the Labour Department, Gisborne, and was promoted to the charge of the office at Wanga- . He was a member of a Wanganui school committee, the Wanganui Technical School Board, and of the Wanganui City Council from 1920 to 1924. He was formerly a member of the Sydenham Band, Christchurch, and president of the Queen Alexandra’s Own Band for three years. Mr. Gohns was secretary of eleven apprenticeship committees in Wanganui. There are now three active Conciliation Commissioners in New Zealand, Mr. P. Hally, a fourth, being temporarilv relieved. ,
