PETONE RIFLE CLUB

Distribution of Prizes Prizes won by members of the Petone Rifle Club were presented at a club gathering held on Saturday evening. In proposing the toast of the New Zealand champion, Mr. R. H. Nicholl, Mr. R. E. Flaws, the president, referred to the successes of club members at the 1932 New Zealand Rifle Association meeting, and stated that the Petone Rifle Club was proud that another of its members had won the New Zealand championship, W. J. Mclver having won the Belt in 1931. Mr. W. H. Nash, M.P., and Mr. D. McKenzie, mayor of Petone, also congratulated Mr. Nicholl. In reply Mr. Nicholl expressed his thanks for so many congratulations, and stated that his win was due in no small measure to the wonderful “team spirit” that existed 'in the Petone Rifle Club. He considered that there was every prospect of other members of the club achieving the honour in the near future. President 11. T. Marshall, as chairman of the executive committee of the National Rifle Association, referred to the good representation of the Petone Rifle Club at the various championship meetings, and congratulated the club on its wonderful team successes. At the last N.R.A. meeting, Petone had secured three of the four team shields, and this was an indication of the shooting strength of the club. He also referred to the fact that the Petone Rifle Club was endeavouring to send a team to this year’s Australian championship meeting. The prize-winners were:— W. H. Ballinger.—*Club champion 1931-32 season: Championship Shield and Trophy; prize-winner (A grade), first short-range handieap series, second short range handicap series and the long-range handicap series; third in Rough and Co. (cluib longfield) handicap aggregate. W. Mclver: Runner-up in club championship trophy; prize-winner (A grade) first short-range handicap “series: second in Rough and Co. (club longfleld) handicap aggregate. J. Carter: Third in club championship trophy; winner Rough and Co. Cup (club longfiold handicap aggregate). It. H. Nicholl: Winner of Scott Memorial Cup Service Competition. T. Warburton: Prize winner (A grade), second short-range handicap series, and long-range handicap series. P. Stewart: Winner of B grade championship, Mcllvride Cup and trophy. C. Lusty: Runner-up in B grade championship trophy; winner Flaws Cup (B and C grade handicap aggregate); prize winner (B and C grade) long-range handleap aggregate. .W. Scambary: Third in B grade championship trophy. J. Braid: Winner C grade championship, Jackson Cup and trophy. I R. Brooke-Taylor: Second in C grade championship trophy; prize winner (B and C grade) first short-range handicap series. W. Sanders: Prize winner (B and C grade) first short-range handicap series.' T.
