The’ big four-masted barque Passat, 2870 toffs net register, which was recently sold by German owners to Finnish buyers, was purchased by Gustaf Erikson, and is now registered at Mariehamn. Mr. Gustaf Erikson, who owns nearly all the big sailing vessels now afloat, had all his big sailers out to South Australia this year to load wheat for the United Kingdom.' The Hougomont. now dismasted at Port Adelaide, and the Melbourne, recently sunk in the Channel, were owned by Mr. Gustaf Erikson. \ .. , ' ITALIAN SHIPPING SUBSIDIES. The expenditure estimates for the Italian Merchant Marine during the fiscal year 1932-33 have been submitted to the Italian Parliament, and they show that the subsidies for shipping companies will aggregate 251,135,000 lire, an increase of 30,177,721 lire on the preceding fiscal year.
