VEGETABLE GROWING
Karori Meeting Lapses DISAPPOINTING RESULT Only slight support was given to a meeting called at Karori to discuss a scheme for the growing of vegetables by the unemployed. Counting a, “Dominion” reporter, there was an attendance of nine, and of this number three were relief workers. In view of the object of the meeting, the promoters had expected a greater measure of interest to be shown by those who stood to reap the benefit—the unemployed. With the poor attendance, it was felt that no good purpose would be served by discussing any' vegetable-growing scheme, and after the names of those present had been taken the meeting lapsed.
The Karori Horticultural Society, which is interesting itself in the project, is meeting' at an early date, and it hopes to then arrange for a further public meeting to consider the scheme. Every endeavour is to be made to ensure the next meeting will be a success. The president of the society, Mr. W. M. Page, who comprised one of those present last evening, said the short notice given was apparently the cause of the small attendance. “Nevertheless, it is not very encouraging," he added.
