SUDDEN DEATH
Railway Guard Collapses
After the Wellington-Woodville train had arrived at the Summit at about 11.30 a.m. yesterday the guard, Mr. William Robert Higson, a widower, aged 56, of Russell Street, Upper Hutt, collapsed suddenly, and on examination was found to be dead. Mr. Higson had lifted some light parcels from the van and had walked to the front of the train, where he collapsed. A special train took him back to Upper Hutt, where doctors were waiting. Mr. Higson had been in the service of the Railway Department for 22$ years and had been stationed at Upper Hutt for the past 11 years. He was a prominent member of the Upper Hutt Bowling Club. He leaves a son and daughter.
