CHURCH PARADE

St. John Ambulance IDEALS OF SERVICE The St. John Ambulance Association and Brigade held a parade service at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral yesterday evening. The lessons were read by Dr. J. S. Elliott and. Mr. F. W. Ward. Canon Percival James, in his sermon, traced the history of the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, and reminded the members of the order that the' eight points of the white cross Which they wore represented the eight Beatitudes. He urged them to strive after the ideals set before them in that description . • the Christian character, and to keep 'true to the motto of the order: “For the Faith and for the Service of Mankind.”

Referring, in the course of his sermon to the death of Dr. Izard, a Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John, Canon James said: “We will treasure the remembrance of his kindness of heart, his high sense of duty, his willing service, and his generous support given to many good causes.”
