PORTS OF CALL

Maui Pomare’s Itinerary DISCUSSION REVIVED Dominion Special Service. Dunedin, June 22. Prompt action has been taken by the Otago Importers’ and Shippers’ Association in regard to the suggestion made by a deputation frm Auckland to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G., W. Forbes, that the Maui Pomare should again call at the northern port. It is felt by the local body ihat if Auckland’s request should be granted it is only right that the claims of Dunedin should again be considered. It will be remembered that when the Government, on the ground of economy, decided that the Maul Pomare should call only at Wellington and Lyttelton, thus serving both islands, Dunedin merchants agreed to the alteration, being desirous of supporting the Government in its efforts for economy. However, seeing that the vessel was primarily designed to servb South Island interests in the banana trade from Samoa it is felt that Dunedin is entitled to some consideration if the Auckland call is reinstated. A telegram has been dispatched to the Prime Minister by the Importers’ and Shippers’ Association protesting emphatically against the reinclusion of Auckland unless the previous running with the call at Dunedin is entirely reinstated.

Later in the day a reply was received from the Prime Minister stating that the representations had been received and would receive full consideration.
