A SURPRISE WIN
Bush Defeat Wairarapa PROVINCIAL RUGBY Eketahuna, June 15. The Bush Rugby Union representative team scored a surprise win over. Wairarapa by 12 points to nil in the first o£ the home-and-home matches of the season played at Eketahuna to-day. This was Wairarapa’s first defeat at the hands of Bush for twelve years.’ There were several defections in both teams, and play at no time reached representative standard. Bush thoroughly deserved its win,- as Wairarapa" failed to reveal, any trace of the form which enabled it to defeat Hawke’s Bay on June 3. Handling by the Wairarapa backs was lamentably weak, which was chiefly responsible for the team’s defeat. The Bush forwards played splendidly and dominated play for practically the whole game. Within three minutes of commencement of play McKav failed to take a pass from Stringfellow, and H. Wolland (Bush) came through, secured, and went across for a good trv. Ollivant failed to convert. Bush 'had all the better of play in the first spell. Before halfttime the teain increased its score to nine, Ollivant kicking two splendid penalty goals. Wairarapa livened up somewhat in the second spell, but faulty handling and lack of cohesion among the inside backs prevented them culminating several promising movements. About ten minutes before time a strong Bush forward rush resulted in P. Wolland scoring for Bush. Ollivant missed the kick. During the latter stages of the game F Clarke, 'the Wairarapa full-back, was injured, and was replaced by Cleland. Mr. B. Harvey was referee.
Mrs. R. St. Lawrence, who has been visiting Masterton, has returned to Hawke’s Bay.
