Acclimatisation Society Among those present at the special meeting of the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation .Society to do honour to the retiring secretary. Mr. C. I. Daseut, was Mr. L. G. Reid, the only living member of the original council of tbe society, which was founded in 1884. Mr. Reid, who was chief law draughtsman, and afterward a magistrate, was treasurer of tbe society for 25 years, and recounted that the first meeting was he’.4 in the museum, with Sir James Hector in the chair They took over from another society, headed by the late Mr. W. T. t. Travers, which, though in existence for thirteen years, had never held a general meeting. Still, it had a balance of £135, and with it fhe present society started its first trout hatchery.
