/Hackberries and apples are best cooked separately, and united afterwards, as the juice of the berries is apt to toughen the apples. /Hackberry jelly will ho more, successful when made from berries which arc slightly under-ripe. .■I comforting beverage in ease of coughs and colds is /Hackberry Vinegar diluted with hoi water. It is made as follows: — Place the berries in a bowl and cover them with pure white vinegar; leave for two days; then press and strain. ,'idd lib. of sugar for each pint of juice, and boil together for thirty minjiles.
