N.Z. Union Meets OVERSEAS TOURS Election of Officers Despite the fact that the fortieth annual conference of delegates of the New Zealand Rugby Union, held yesterday at the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ Club, was one of the most momentous in the history of the union, the business was got through in a day. The retiring president, Mr. S. 8. Dean, presided over au attendance of some eighty delegates. “The hist season was a busy one,” said the president, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balancesheet. He referred In eulogistic terms to the visit of the Australian team during the season. He also mentioned that Le Roy, the captain of the Canadian team that recently toured Japan, was a promising youth when the New Zealand Rugby team visited Canada in 1924 and played in a match against the All Blacks, Mr. Dean said that a personal letter from the secretary of the Canadian Rugby Union suggests the possibility of a New Zealand team touring Japan. Mr. Dean also intimated that as a result of a talk the committee bad had with Mr. Tandy, manager of the South African cricket team, who is also a member of the South African Rugby Board, he may induce his board to reconsider the invitation to South Africa to tour New Zealand and Australia In 1934 or 1935. During the year the committee had received and accepted an invitation from the International Board for a New Zealand team to visit Great Britain during the 1936-37 season. During the tour matches will be played against England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

McKenzie (Hawke's Bay) asked the president if he would give a ruling as to whether there could be replacement of injured players in the Dominion this season and whether teams would be able to leave the field at half-time. It was decided that injured players could be replaced if both captains agreed, and that teams must not leave the field at half-time without permission of the referee. On the motion of. Dr. G. .1. Adams (Wanganui), it was decided to instruct the New Zealand Referees’ Association that rule 34, relating to foul play, should be strictly, enforced this season. School Footballs. Ou the motion of Mr. G. A. Maddison (Hawke’s Bay) it was decided again to grant £750 for the supply of footballs to primary schools. Appointment of Referees. On the motion of Mr. N. McKenzie (Hawke’s Bay), it was decided to recommend to unions that the appointment ■of referees for interprovincial matches should be made by the home union. Appreciation of the services which the secretary, Mr. A. E. Nielson) had rendered to the game during the past season was voiced by both the retiring and incoming presidents. Election of Officers. WOMEN'S HOCKEY Wcncrei Chib's Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Wenerei Women’s Hockey Club was attended by a large number of present and intending members. The report and bal-ance-sheet, read by Miss T. Blackle, were considered very satisfactory. The balance-sheet showed the club to be in a reasonably good financial position. No championship honours were gained by the club last season, but the teams all performed well. It was decided Hint the club pay the travelling expenses, etc., of its unemployed members during the season.. Weekly night practices have been arranged, and it is hoped that all members of the club will take advantage of this privilege and attend regularly.
