Taxation Burden

Sir, —It is hard to understand how tho Government expects the salaried man and the wage-earner to continue to dip into their pockets to meet the heavy taxation which is being imposed and proposed. The latest proposed form of taxation is a sales tax, which, in short, will mean an increase in the cost of living, as it will have to be paid by the public generally. What I cannot understand is why does the Government not compel a reduction of 20 per cent, to be made in all insurance premiums. This would be a great benefit to those who have to find heavy premiums in face of reduced incomes. Borough and city rates should also be subject to a 20 per cent, reduction, until better times return. The wageearner and salaried man will soon be taxed until they are In the same position as the farming community, and then where will the Government turn for revenue? —I am, etc., REbUCED SALARY. April 12.
