HIBERNIANS CONFER
Welcomed to Wanganui 70 DELEGATES ATTEND Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, April 13. The triennial movable conference of the Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society of New Zealand was opened in the Victoria League rooms to-day with an official welcome by the mayor, Mr. N. G. Armstrong, aud Councillor J. D. Crowley. Bro. D. Flynn presided over an attendance of 79 delegates. In his address of welcome, Mr. Armstrong referred to the badge of the society, on which was Inscribed “Faith, Hope and Charity.” These were difficult days, and it was well that members appreciated the true meaning of charity in its widest sense,” he said. "Charity is the perfection of every Christian virtue.” Bro. D. Flynn, in thanking the speakers, mentioned that he first visited Wanganui twentjl-Hve years ago when it was a small town. Since then It had grown to be a city, which had sent its quota of men to guide the destinies of the nation. He mentioned John Bryce and John Ballance as having done sterling service for New Zealand, aud Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P., who had a record of twenty years in Parliament as Wanganui’s representative.
