Dunedin Demonstrators Broken Up TROUBLE SUBSIDING By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, April 13. The only demonstration of unemployed to-day was dispersed quietly and effectively this afternoon when a detachment of 30 police marched straight into the crowd. In a few minutes the meeting was broken up and the crowd dispersed. The relief works strike is a failure, and the disturbances appear to be at an end. ARRESTS MADE Six Men in Custody REMANDED FOR WEEK By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, April 13. As the result of the unemployed disturbance on Monday, six men were arrested at 5.30 o’clock this morning and later appeared in the Police Court charged with inciting lawlessness. They were remanded in custody for a week. The men were: Robert John Eady, aged 26; William Foote, aged 30, an Australian; Harry McDonald, aged 32. from England; Michael O’Rorke, aged’ 28, from Scotland; Arthur Eric Proctor, aged 29, from England; and William Ronald Winton, aged 26. When bail was applied for the police stated that some of the men had been strongly advocating violence of an outrageous nature. A man said to be a representative of the unemployed workers’ movement visited this group yesterday, where there were some twenty men engaged. He asked for the delegate, and when the delegate intimated his presence the Visitor made a wild rush at him with fists flying. Only one course was open to the defender, and he stood back and gave it to the attacker with both hands.
