Principles of Translation
In order lo give the less experienced members of Ihe Esperanto Club an insight into the principles ol translation, members present at the last meeting wrote in English ambiguous sentences, idioniatie phrases, and rarely-used expressions. the translation of which not only tested Hie advance made in knowledge ol Hie language by each member. but also demonstrated Hie power of Esperanto Jo convey a clear meaning to the most, intricate .sentence. The following readings ami speeches occupied Hie second part of the evening:-- Mrs. C. Leek, "Unique features of the Dead Sea": Mr. Dust. "History of Kimberley Diamond Mines": Mr. V.’ Le.-k. "Items in Wellington": Miss G. t'.'irl.v. "Aeiiii.'iintam-es"; Mr. Jack. "A Neighbourly Romance.”
