TRAFFIC GUIDE LINES
Not in Centre of Road MOTORIST’S NOVEL DEFENCE Dominion Special Service. Feilding, April 13. By submitting measurements to prove that the white lines at certain corners in the Manawatu Gorge were not in the centre of the roadway, a charge of failing to keep inside the white lines, preferred against Noble de Camp, of Wellington, was dismissed by Mr. R. M. Watson, S.M., in the Feilding Magistrate’s Court yesterday. It was alleged that the wheels of defendant’s vehicle were two feet inside the white line on ope of the bends. W. Brockie, road foreman, gave evidence for the prosecution that the lines were approximately in the centre of the road. Defendant said he had taken measurements at the corner where he had been stopped, and had found that the white line was Ift. 2in. to 2ft. from the centre of the road. He claimed that the white line was not in the centre of the road and was emphatic that he had not crossed the line. Mr. Watson, S.M., said the case resolved itself into one of fact, and after reviewing the evidence he considered the prosecution had not proved Its case. The information was dismissed. Defendant was not allowed costs. There was a similar conflict of evidence in a case against Reginald Crawford Lawrence, and the information against him was also dismissed.
