Sharkey-Schmeling - Fight New York, April 11. The Madison Square Garden Corporation announced on Monday that construction work would begin at once on a new 500,000-dollar bowl-shaped stadium at Long Island City, fifteen minutes from Broadway, the work to be completed in time to furnish a stage for the Sharkey-Schmeling world title fight on June 16. The announcement came as a surprise. as it had been expected that the fight would 'be held at the Yankee Stadium or the Polo Grounds. The plans call for a seating capacity of between seventy and eighty thousand.
