SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

Hikurangi College Benefit

A concert organised by Miss W iuifred Quinton took place in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last evening in aid of the fund for restoring the loss sustained by the Maori boys in the recent lire at Hikurangi College, Clareville. The programme was an excellent one and was greatly appreciated by the audience which assembled to support this good cause. A delightful number was a poi dance by the Maori Mission party, led by Miss M itarina Mitchell, the other performers being Misses Miriama Heketa, and Frances Mitchell. Miss Mavis Crawford, who volunteered her services at the eleventh hour, played a pianoforte solo, “Fantasie Impromptu.” The other items were: Tenor solos. “Minneiied” (Brahms) and "Eleanore” (Coleridge-Taylor), by Mr. C. A. Williams; recitation by Miss Mary Cooley; vocal duet, ‘‘Harbour Lights” (Squires), by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kemp; dance duo, “Butterfly and the Rose,” by Elaine Duncan and Colleen Walling: vocal solo, “Sing, Joyous Bird” (Montague Phillips), by Miss Myra Sawyer; violin solos, “Andante” and “Presto” (Tartini), by Miss Ava Symons; “Homing” (Del Riego) and "Fat Little Feller” (Gordon), sung by the Waiata Quartet, Misses Vondersloot, Gray, Fenton, and Mrs. Ramsey; vocal solo, “The River of Years” (Gerald Lane, by Mr. Wilfred Andrews; ballet, Jota, Valencia, by Misses P. Ashbolt, P. McNamara. Y. Fisher, R. Elsmore, J. Neil. M. Heenan; vocal solo, "The Tyrst,” by Miss Myra Sawyer; vocal solo, by Mr. Ray Kemp; and an original sketch entitled “Squaring the Triangle,” a geometrical study, by Victor S. Lloyd, in which the parts were taken as follow: — Mr. Winter, Victor S. Lloyd; Balfe, E. R. Render; Lucy Winter, Elsie Lloyd; Jerry Cartwright, H. A. Painter. The accompanist was Mr. W. A. Gatheridge.
