I Unemployed Players’ Fees CLUB HELP ASKED Wellington Association t I ; Au appeal to clubs to help iu paying j the subscriptions of their unemployed ' members was made by Mrs. J. 11. I’oulter, . who presided over the recent annual • meeting of the Wellington Ladies' Hockey Association. A suggestion was also made that clubs should arrange entertainments iu aid of teams’ travelling expenses. It was stated that many girls did not do anything for the game other than play, and of ttio 445 players iu Wellington. about 20 had signified their intention to assist in the working of the association. However, only about five carried out their intention. This year there will be 37 teams in the competition. Entries will close on Saturday, April 10, Competition matches will commence on April 30. Arrangements have been made to hold practice matches on April 23. As a memorial to the late Mr. F. Walker, a cup is to be presented for competition by Mrs,- H. Walker. Mrs. Lark.complained that some girls were not adhering to the association’s rules respecting regulation costumes'on the field of play. Colours of all descriptions were noticed last season. Mrs. I’oulter agreed with Mrs. Lark in this respect, and said that sleeveless frocks were against the rules of the association. All the uniforms did not comply with the regulations. It was decided to make it an instruction to referees that in the case of teams m t punctually on the ground at the starting time the game should be started with the number of players then on the field. The. same rule is to apply to starting after half-time. Several clubs stated that they would be able to start play at 1.30 p.m. The Petone Technical College was granted affiliation with the association. Two teams are being entered for the competitions. The suggestion was before 'the meeting that two girls from each club should attend the referees’ meeting every week with a view to becoming referees. It was stated that if the attendance could be guaranteed, a lecture would be given on rules. The men's association is being asked to join with the association in conducting a seven-a-side tournament on June 3. The following officers were elected:— President. Mrs. .1. H.
