Big Improvement Scheme
During the next two years thousands of London workers will be delayed twice every day in consequence of the widening of the London and North Eastern Railway, between Gldea Park and Shenfield in Essex. , Officials of the company estimate that main line trains will run from six to ten minutes late, and suburban trains four or five minutes. The affected section includes the famous Brentwood gradient down which expresses travel at 70 to 80 miles an hour, but for two years the top speed will be 20 miles an hour, and more often nearer five miles an hour. The scheme provides for four sets of metals in place of two, and includes the reconstruction of Harold Wood, Brentwood, and Shenfield stations. The cost Is estimated at £BOO,OOO.
