Auckland and Victoria Colleges FRANCIS IN FORM Judged from play on Saturday, when each of the teams completed its first innings, this year’s Victoria University College cricket eleven is in some degree superior to the visiting eleven from Auckland University College. As the match stands at present, Victoria is well in the lead, with an innings of 274 against the 102 runs scored by Auckland on Saturday morning.’ ... ~ Auckland s first innings was rather disastrous, and only D. Hawke, who made 33, seemed to be able to deal with Wellington’s bowler, A. Francis, who distinguished himself by taking six wickets for 30 runs. The Wellington men’s fielding was extremely good, especially in the slips. Of the visitors, L. B. Schnauer was an impressive bowler, and made short work of Wellington’s last four or five batsmen. He took five wickets all told for 43 runs, and in taking the last brought Wellington’s innings to a close by bringing down the off wicket and leg wicket with his last ball. A. R. Cramond and T. B. Nelson, of Wellington, with 87 and 79 respectively, were the outstanding batsmen of the day. The match will be resumed this morning.
