PLANE STRIKES BIRD
Machine Dives Into Water AIRMEN RESCUED UNHURT (Rec. March 27, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, March 27. A 10-year-old D 1137 aeroplane dived into the sea off Crowdy Head, near Port MacQuarie. Its three occupants, Pat Hall (pilot), John Kingsford Smith, and Harry Purvis, were unhurt. They had swum a mile toward the shore when they were picked up by a fishing-boat. • Tlie accident is ascribed to an eagle hawk striking the propeller.
