£67,394 Behind 1931 LAG IN COLLECTION City rates are not coming in quite so readily as they did a year ago. The amount outstanding on January 9 was £204,056. Collections amounted to £67.394 less than had been paid in by the same date in 1931. The figures arc as follow:— 1930-1931. £ Total Ratos 524,175 Collected to Jan. 9, 1931 .. 371.984 Outstanding £152,191 19.11-1932. Total Rates 508,040 Collected to Jan. 9, 1932 .. 304,590 Outstanding £204,050 Demands, threatening legal action, have been made on all ratepayers to meet their liabilities. Consequent upon this action, together with the fact that the rate demands were issued a fortnight later last year than the year before, it is anticipated that between now and the end of the month there will be a busy time at the treasury counter In the Town Hall.
