SMITH FAMILY SCHEME
Prime Minister Approves Approval of the “Smith Family” scheme now being fostered by radio station 2ZW, was given by the Prime Minister, Kt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, last evening in a short broadcast address. After mentioning that the object of the scheme was primarily to see that no child was missed by Santa Clans this year, he said that the idea of being able to play Father Christmas to a specified family was one that should appeal to many. Those willing to help had only to inquire at the radio station, and they would be put in touch with a distressed family. The Prime Minister expressed 'he hope that the citizens of Wellington would prove worthy of their record in the past. Although we were passing through a period of financial stringency, there were times to unbutton the pockets and spend, and never more so than Christmas. Mr. Forbes endorsed what the Kt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister in Charge of Unemployment, bad said, and stated that the Government was completely in accord with the scheme.
