Search for New Talent INVITATION TO SCHOOLS The management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association is keenly desirous that all the most promising boys in the primary and secondary schools in ' the city should have the benefit of coaching by the association’s professional, C. S. Dempster. With this end in view, Mr. E. G. Cousins, representing the Secondary Schools Cricket Association, and Mr. McPhee, representing the Wellington Boys’ Cricket Association, were present by invitation at the weekly meeting of the management committee last evening. Mr. P. R. Broad, the chairman, said that the committee considered that in its professional coach it had one of the best jatsmen in the world, and it was felt that he must have something to impart to. the boys of the city. If the school cricket associations would co-operate with a programme whereby the coach could give tuition to the most promising boy cricketers,, the association would see that the coaching was given free of charge. Mr. Cousins said that his school. Technical was very satisfied with Dempster as a coach; he had brought the lads on amazingly. Mr. McPhee said his association would have no difficulty in submitting the names of eleven of the most promising boys, as representative matches were played. ' Messrs. Cousins and McPhee agreed to bring the association’s offer before their respective associations. Mr. Broad said the committee felt it had not even touched the fringe of cricket coaching in the secondary and primary schools, and desired the wholehearted co-operation of the schools in tackling this question. It was decided that Dempster should be released from coaching duties until January 6, to allow him to join in the special practices of the Plunket Shield team, and to play in the shield matches against Auckland and Canterbury. Match With Otago. The committee decided to accept the dates suggested by Otago, February 19. 20, 22 and 23, for the Plunket Shield match between Wellington and Otago at Dunedin. Amendments to Rules. The following amendments by the. M.C.C. will be brought into force in local cricket as from December 19:— “1. The wicket will be one inch wider and one inch higher than provided for in law 6. “2. The striker shall be given out l.b.w. under law 24 even though the ball may have been snicked on to his person. “3. A maximum of seven minutes’ actual rolling immediately before or during a match, instead of ten minutes.”
