While many of them still have a long way to travel before reaching the goal of perfection, there arc others zvho have successfully overcome.the obstacles*which so often make the pursuit of literary success a heartbreaking task. The brilliant zvork of those Nczv Zealanders zvho have gained distinction overseas is'a constant spur to less experienced zvriters and artists to go and do likczvisc. The urge to zvrite might almost be regarded as a marked trait in the average Nczv Zealander, and zvith that desire so pronounced, it is safe to predict that the years ahead zvill sec many of the Dominion’s literary enthusiasts* breaking into print in the great publishing centres of the zvorld.” The above paragraph prefaced a Nczv Zealand authors' section in the 1929 Christmas Number of “The Dominion.” To-day, just tzvo years later, zve again offer our readers a varied selection of stories and articles by another group of talented amateurs. It is gratifying to observe that Nczv Zealanders arc steadily evolving a literature of their ozvn, zvhich even depressions cannot stay. We are pleased to assist these nczv zvriters in breaking into print and zvish them—as zve zvish you all—a Christmas of joy and a Nczv Year of steadily grozving prosperity.
