P. & T. Employees’ Association
Sir, —There are three points not made clear in Mr. McKenzie’s official statement : (1) What was the minimum age below which all votes were discarded? I have a vivid- recollection of a poll for joining the Alliance of Labour (the “Red” federation) some ten years ago, when all voters under 21 years of age were allowed to vote. (2) What amount of the association’s funds in the last 12 months has been spent “without making any unconditional direct grant to the funds of a political party upon propaganda of a political nature in endeavouring to secured improved salary conditions”? And (3) what political party was it intended to finance? From-the point of view of the general taxpayer, who, indirectly, builds up these funds, these are fair questions to ask, and I think Mr. McKenzie will realise that they call for clear answers.—l am, TAXPAYER. Wellington, December 8.
