HARBOUR BRIDGE
Spanning the Waitemata ENGINEER’S VIEWS Once a start was made, the proposed Auckland Harbour bridge could be completed in four and a half years, Mr. L. Ennis, of the firm of Donnan, Long and Co., in charge of the construction of the Sydney Harbour bridge, told a "Dominion” reporter yesterday on his arrival' from San Francisco by the Monowai. Mr. Ennis will leave for Sydney this afternoon, when the Monowai continues its voyage. Mr. Ennis said he had been in London since April, and was returning now
to be present at the opening of the Sydney Harbour bridge on March 19. He would be returning to London early in April, and would be accompanied by the lion. Roland Kitson, deputy-chair-man of the company, who also was coming out from London to be present at the opening of the bridge. “So far, discussions about the Auckland Harbour bridge are in the very early stages," Mr. Ennis said. “They say it is twenty years ahead of Its time, but I do not agree. I think it is wanted. The situation chosen is an excellent one, and the progress of North Shore would be hastened if the harbour was spanned.” Mr. Ennis said he would be conferring with the bridge promoters before he left for Sydney.
