Violent Gale Sweeps City VESSELS SEEK SHELTER (Rec. September 4, 8 p.m.) Sydney, September 4. A violent storm with a southerly gale swept Sydney early this morning and continued all day. Considerable damage was done in the suburbs and to small harbour craft. Large liners are straining at their anchors and smaller coastal vessels have been driven to shelter. The Manly ferryboats were tossed violently, ansi during the crossing near the Heads the passengers were thrown off their seats. Wild weather is reported along the south coast, where a woman was drowned in a swollen creek. Telegraph services are disorganised and heavy snow has fallen in parts of southern New South Wales, impeding railway traffic. FLOODS IN SUBURBS South Australian Invasion Sydney, September 4. Torrential rain resulted in creeks overflowing and water entering many homes in the suburbs, and thousands of pounds’ worth of damage was caused, according to Adelaide reports. The flooded Torrens has broken its banks in several places, and the suburb of Kent Town was flooded to a depth of four feet in places. A cloudburst at Nortons' Summit resulted in tons of earth slipping on to the main road, blockiiig traffic. An immense volume of water is pouring over the weir at Torrens Lake f A cyclonic disturbance struck Sydney early this morning, and rain fell In sheets. The wind flattened many fences and damaged roofs. The weather is stormy along the coast and over the Tasman.
