Dear Boys and Girls. — ' I hope you are all making the most of every minute of the holidays, for Time moves specially quickly at holiday-time, and one zveck has flown past already. Country rambles seem to be the order of the, day judging from the iiezvs of the out-door tvorld which came in this week s letters. During your walks you have seen many busy nestbuilders. The wedding-time of the birds is near. Even noZv, you may find stray nests of eggs. You must not think that I zvant you to start egg collecting, but now is the time for you to learn the. beautiful colourings and to sec the birth of the baby birds. Be watchers, not destroyers.
You zvill notice, among other interesting things, hozv some eggs arc coloured to resemble their surroundings and others, laid in dark places, arc pure white. Never destroy eggs or disturb a nest. Take your camera and photograph the nest zvith its eggs, get to know zehat bird laid the eggs, and count the days till the baby bird appears. Nature photography is a very thrilling pastime. You must be very patient and almost as good at stalking as a Red Indian. If you try it I hope you have heaps of luck and I’d love to sec the results. Now Mr. Printer is waiting, so I must say good-bye till next zveck.—KlWl., ,
