YOUTH WINS AGAIN
Amateur Golf in Australia FINAL OF CHAMPIONSHIPS (Rec. September 3, 9 pan.) Sydney, September 3. The Australian championship golf titles were decided to-day in excellent weather. The Victorian boy, H. Williams, won the amateur championship, beating G. Thompson (New South Wales), 3 and 2. The professional championship was won by J. Spence, who defeated W. Bolger, 2 up and one. The play of the amateurs excited the most interest. Thompson, who is a deliberate type of player, made the game slow. Williams, on th© other hand, is breezy, stylish, and partial to long hitting, but his approaching was not as accurate as usual. Thompson was below form, and the game was not up to championship satndard, possibly owing to the fortnight's continuous strain of these competitions. The displays by the professionals were much more consistent. Spence, although he began shakily, finished strongly.
