Formidable Task in China DESOLATE HANKOW SCENE Shanghai, September 2. Hopes are being held out of a return of the Yangtse River to normal level in three weeks. Firms whose buildings have not collapsed are endeavouring to resume on the upper floors. It is estimated that ten days’ pumping will be necessary to drain the business district of Hankow. Elaborate preparations are in progress to combat epidemics. Thousands of corpses and carcases are being exposed as the water subsides. FLOOD RELIEF CARGO Japan Sending Supply Ship Tokio, September 2. The Amagi Maru is leaving on September 10 for China, carrying a full cargo of materials for the relief of the Chinese flood sufferers. Baron Fukao will supervise the distribution of the supplies.
